West Austin

Southwest Austin contains some of the most recently developed communities as well as being home to outlying areas once considered suburbs but are now part of Austin’s collection of neighborhoods. Southwest Austin territory begins just across the water and west of Mopac, or Highway 1 and extends for miles outward towards the Texas Hill Country.

Tarrytown, just north of Lady Bird Lake and west of downtown Austin, is the first community found in what is considered as West Austin. One can drive into the entrance of Tarrytown and immediately notice the hills beginning to take shape that rise above Lake Austin.

West Austin homes feature some of the higher end properties with the median home prices in the $500,000 range. West Lake Hills is also located in West Austin and is characterized by its single family homes resting on large, wooded lots in the hills surrounding Lake Austin.

Lost Creek is also located in WEst Austin and is perhaps the most affordable and attractive communities in the area. Lost Creek homes can start in the mid $200,000 range and can be as high as $1 million or more for some of the larger homes with stellar hill country views.

Just to the immediate west of Lost Creek is Barton Creek, home to the Barton Creek Country Club and Resort. Homes here are all luxury and are nestled in some of the most beautiful parts of the Texas Hills. Homes in Barton Creek typically start in the $500,000 range with the most magnificent real estate topping $10 million.

Other luxury real estate developments in West Austin include Rob Roy, Davenport Ranch Seven Oaks. Students in these areas are typically served by the Eanes Independent School District, an award-winning district that excels in athletics, community involvement and academics.
