The area considered as North Central encompasses a wide area of real estate from around 2222 north into Williamson County and is a center of business activity and a vast collection of neighborhoods. North Central Austin is bound on either side by Highway 183 and I-35. This area of Central Texas is a combination of older, established neighborhoods along with brand new developments up and down the Mopac and 183 corridors.
Some of the more historic neighborhoods in North Central Austin are Hyde Park and Allendale. Hyde Park at one time was the original home of the State Fair of Texas before the fair moved to Dallas in 1870. Soon thereafter, Hyde Park became an affluent suburb of North Austin comprised with its own streetcar station leading to downtown Austin. Allendale was also one of the first suburban neighborhoods with somewhat smaller homes built on smaller sections.
Today, there are a number of popular neighborhoods in North Central Austin including Crestview, Scofield Farms, Balcones Wood and Wells Branch to name just a few. Home prices in North Central Austin fill the gamut with a large number of starter homes in the area beginning in the low $100,000 range to larger homes on the upper scale approaching $1 million or more.
Newer developments and shopping areas have attracted new residents to the area with a stellar mix of retail and residential along with some recent condominium homes being added to the mix. There are several state government agencies that office in this area and many state government employees find North Central Austin an affordable and convenient place to live, work and play.
The area is mostly developed with attractive homes along with substantial shopping districts from everyday items to fine dining to entertainment. The area is generally accessible from all points being located to major thoroughfares on all sides.
